Amnesty International reports that Indian authorities are engaging in a pattern of “bulldozer justice,” targeting Muslim homes, businesses, and places of worship without due process. Described as a de-facto state policy, the demolitions aim to crush dissenters and protesters, disproportionately affecting Muslims. Around 600 Muslims have faced forced evictions, arbitrary punishment, and violations of their rights, leading to urgent calls from Amnesty’s secretary general, Agnès Callamard, to address these abuses. The investigation documents 128 demolitions in five states between April and May 2022, highlighting discrimination and the use of police force during the demolitions.
