U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has cautioned that combatants in regions such as Congo, Gaza, Myanmar, Ukraine, and Sudan are disregarding international law, emphasizing the need for greater respect for human rights and global peace. Addressing the Human Rights Council, Guterres expressed concern about the world becoming “less safe by the day,” highlighting the urgent issues of escalating conflicts and the constant importance of human rights. The council’s current session, spanning six weeks, will address various human rights crises, including the recent death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and concerns over the council’s effectiveness in the face of increasing polarization among member states.
