Qatar has announced a $3 million donation to the office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, aiming to support welfare and safety in the war-torn country.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the funds will support initiatives to improve the lives of children, citizens affected by armed conflicts, and the overall population in Ukraine. The ministry stated, “Furthermore, the fund will contribute to increasing legal support and improving the necessary infrastructure required to provide the support needed for families affected by conflict in Ukraine.”
Both the ministry and the commissioner’s office reaffirmed their dedication to a world where human dignity is respected and individual rights are protected.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Qatar for its mediation efforts, which resulted in the release of 16 Ukrainian children who had been forcibly deported to Russia. He stated, “I am deeply grateful to Qatar and personally to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for assisting Ukraine in this vital effort.”
Qatar also welcomed 20 Ukrainian and Russian families to Doha for healthcare and support as part of ongoing mediation efforts to reunite families. Ukraine claims Russia has illegally taken over 19,000 Ukrainian children since the 2022 invasion, with fewer than 400 returned. [Source: Al Jazeera]
